It's sad to see any small business close - especially a restaurant - but Ponte's has in my opinion, year by year been lowering the quality of their food to the point that I would consider them a slight step above Olive Garden, or maybe frozen premade Italian dishes.

Service - Okay, in Italy, long lunches (followed by siestas are the norm) but in Seattle, in the middle of high-tech Fremont, who has time for a 1.5 to 2 hour lunch. It just took too freaking long for them to get food out.

Credit cards - Well they take them at dinner or if you have a bunch of people ordering, but when I tried to stop in for their $8.00 lunch window take out, they refused my service saying that the credit card purchase will cost them $18.00 in charges to process. Guys, sorry, I own a small business, we accept V, MC and AMEX. No the charge is a percentage of your total. And, it's business, if you want to own a business you have to be prepared to pay. That's...um life.

Food - the best for last, their pomodoro came from a tube of tomato paste...no seriously... and was just so far from what food tastes like in Italy that I finally had a hard time even enjoying it.

I think that at one time, they were better, but much like the Kitchen Nightmares TV program they made so many classically bad moves, they were bound to failure. As the competition heated up in Fremont with more restaurants (albeit not Italian) sprouting up all over, they should have retooled their menu and attitudes about service.

Sad to say, but I shed no tears when they closed. Hopefully whoever takes over the space will not make the multitude of mistakes that they did.

Re: Pontevecchio Italian Bistro

I heard he was opening a euro/italian sports bar and panini place near the george and dragon, on leary. Food is above average, but it's the atmosphere (and especially the host) that makes it. Go here if you want a nice, long, relaxing romantic dinner. Don't go here if you're in any sort of hurry, or have plans after dinner.
